About

I’m Yasmin Hassan, a passionate software engineer and technology enthusiast with a background in information technology and computer applications. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from Makerere University and have gained practical experience working as a JDA System Analyst at DHL Supply Chain, where I manage systems processes and stock operations. I’ve also interned as a Business Process Modeling Analyst with GDE Experts and Uganda National Roads Authority, contributing to process engineering and systems improvements.

With skills in UX/UI design, process modeling, and programming in PHP, Java, and Python, I lead and collaborate on innovative projects, including crime analysis and water theft detection systems. I am driven by a passion for technology, having represented Pilgrim Africa in the USA to showcase my work in robotics and fundraise for underprivileged children’s education.

My leadership and project management skills have been honed through various initiatives, including my role as team leader for the Women in Fintech competitions in 2022 and 2023. I enjoy mentoring youth in technology and robotics, and I’m committed to driving innovation for socioeconomic empowerment.

Fluent in both English and Swahili, I’m always eager to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful projects that align with the Sustainable Development Goals.

I am also excited to be pursuing in Data Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC) as one of my great achievement. With a strong interest in data analysis, I am eager to develop my skills in statistical methods, machine learning, and data visualization. Although my experience in the field is just beginning, I have a passion for uncovering insights from data and applying them to solve real-world problems.

This opportunity at UBC will allow me to learn from leading experts, participate in cutting-edge research, and collaborate with talented peers. I am particularly interested in [specific areas of interest within data science, e.g., predictive analytics, big data, etc.], and I am enthusiastic about leveraging this education to make meaningful contributions to the field.
